Do your suppliers really matter?

Welcome,

Have you ever asked yourself  ... " I wonder what our suppliers think about us?"

More importantly, does your supplier’s view of you… affect your bottom line?

If you're not asking, you should be!

Historically, customers and suppliers have kept an arms length from each other. There has been a philosophy that promulgated relationships of distrust, combativeness, and un-cooperation. There was a general attitude that the buyer had the money and thus had control of the situation. It was viewed that the suppliers needed your business more than you needed their product or service. This philosophy has seen a paradigm shift due to the advent of technology. Technology has played a major role in the evolution of all aspects of the business world, and the business of procurement was not left behind.  Technology has created a smaller, quicker, and more efficient environment for us to operate in. As the world of procurement evolves into it’s future state, we see an environmental shift from ‘who’s in control’ to one of ‘cooperation and effective communications’

Question ?

"I don't have a strategic plan developed, but I know what I want my employees to accomplish. I have regular meetings where I talk about what I'm trying to achieve. How come the organization doesn't seem to always be going in the same direction? "

           Tom ...

When you purchased your last materials requirement, did you review your suppliers capabilities?

That's another question everyone should be asking. With the ever-changing resource market, organizations need to qualify their suppliers.

Is it important to you that your suppliers have properly trained employees? You bet it is. Is it important to your suppliers that you have properly trained employees? You bet it is!

Resource development benefits both the employee and the organizations that practice it.

(When a prospective employee   asks you about training,  what do  you say? )

Mike's Reply
Is your organization like a ship a drift at sea? It's not uncommon for employees and companies (and/or departments within a company) to be striving to achieve different goals. Organizations are made of people and processes. Very often we ask our people to perform at a level that our processes can't support. When we don't take the time to develop and communicate a solid strategic plan, how can we expect our employees to know what we really want? One of the problems with business today is that we expect employees to follow along blindly.

This is the second in a series of newsletters I will be offering to past, current and prospective clients. I hope you find value in the bits of information these news letters offer. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or comments.

Ask yourself a question. Is your company exactly where you want it to be? If it's not, what are you doing to get there?
What's the definition of insanity ... to do the same thing over and over and expect a different result!

Have a great summer, hope to see you soon...            Mike
